ManchildOfficial Website

Manchild was a UK production duo and childhood friends Max Odell and Brett Parker, hailing from Buckinghamshire.

In 1997, straight after graduating from university, they signed with One Little Indian Records, then home to Björk, Skunk Anansie, Sneaker Pimps, and The Shamen. The duo was mentored by legendary music industry manager Mike Champion (The Prodigy).

Their early underground 12″ white label releases were incredibly well-received, with their debut track ‘Rockin’ The Place’ becoming a staple in Liam Howlett’s DJ sets. For their debut album, they collaborated with a wide range of artists reflecting their rock and hip hop influences, including Andy Cairns of Therapy?, Kelly Jones of The Stereophonics, Mike Edwards of Jesus Jones, Sadat X of Brand Nubian, and Motion Man. The album showcased their musical and production ambition, with two tracks featuring a string quartet reinterpretation of the original demos. It reached number 2 in the UK Independent Album charts and garnered critical acclaim and strong media support from the likes of Zane Lowe, Eddy Temple Morris, Sarah Cox, NME, and Melody Maker.

Live, Manchild expanded into an eight-piece act, incorporating decks, drums, and rock and roll, with various MCs and onstage ‘momentum’ Kwam. The live show proved incredibly popular, leading to two years of solid touring, playing nearly every UK festival and high-profile European slots. They supported acts like Ian Brown, Wheatus, Bryan Adams, and Chicane, and developed friendships with bands like The Bloodhound Gang, Soulwax, and Slipknot. The year following the release of the ‘Untied States’ LP, Manchild achieved their first UK Top 40 hit with ‘Nothing Without Me,’ receiving daytime airplay on Radio 1, Capital Radio, and Kiss FM.

Their final release was a reworking of ‘Hard Wax’ for the soundtrack of the Wesley Snipes movie ‘Blade Trinity,’ co-produced by RZA of the Wu Tang Clan, who was the film’s music supervisor.

Max and Brett’s music continued to feature in high-profile media, including the Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift movie, EA sports titles, and the game Amplitude, alongside artists like Blink 182, David Bowie, Garbage, and Weezer.
